  7.          ESIE (pronounced "easy") is the acronym for Expert System 
  8.          Inference Engine.  ESIE is an Expert System Shell; a tool in 
  9.          the field of Artificial Intelligence. 
  10.                                              
  11.          The ESIE distribution diskette, of which this README is one 
  12.          file, may be freely copied and distributed.  Printed copies 
  13.          of this manual, or this manual without the rest of the files 
  14.          on the distribution diskette, may not be copied or reproduced 
  15.          in any form. 
  16.          
  17.          This release of ESIE is a special one created solely for the 
  18.          Maxell AI Toolbox advertising campaign.  The same 
  19.          restrictions that apply to this release apply to any release 
  20.          of the ESIE system.  Namely, you may copy and distribute this 
  21.          diskette as long as the copy is an exact duplicate of the 
  22.          distribution diskette.

  24.          Ten files are normally found on the ESIE distribution 
  25.          diskette.  These have been changed somewhat for this release:

  46.          The files found on this release are identical to their ESIE 
  47.          distribution diskette counterparts except for their names and 
  48.          a few minor changes.  These changes where instituted due to 
  49.          space restrictions on the Maxell eleventh diskette and to 
  50.          make logical room for Logic Line 1 - an AI product from our 
  51.          friend corporation: Thunderstone.

  58.          PROVE DEFECTIVE, YOU (AND NOT LIGHTWAVE NOR MAXELL) ASSUME

  62.          With ESIE you can put some "smarts" into your personal 
  63.          computer.  You can build custom "knowledge bases" (KBs) that 
  64.          can be used to aid people, like you and me, in doing things 
  65.          that we would not be capable of doing, or doing as well, 
  66.          without the system.  ESIE knowledge bases can be built to 
  67.          help us make decisions or to make our computers "more human." 
  68.  
  69.          May we suggest that you make a copy of the distribution 
  70.          diskette before you get started?  This will make it easier 
  71.          for you to pass ESIE and Logic Line 1 along to your friends 
  72.          and associates. 
  73.          
  74.          You can use either the DOS COPY *.* command or the DOS 
  75.          DISKCOPY command to copy the distribution diskette.  ESIE is 
  76.          perfectly at home in hard disk systems. 
  77.          
  78.          ESIE comes with its own manual on the distribution diskette.  
  79.          To print this manual enter the command:

  81.               COPY MANUAL.ESI PRN
  82.          
  83.          at the DOS prompt.  It is only 25 pages long!
  84.          
  85.          If you want to see ESIE in action before you do anything, 
  86.          then slide the diskette in a floppy disk drive and type in 
  87.          the command:

  89.               ESIE
  90.          
  91.          The ESIE introductory screen will appear.  At the top of this 
  92.          screen ESIE is asking you to supply the file name where the 
  93.          knowledge can be found.  Type in ANIMAL.ESI.
  94.          
  95.          You will next be brought to the ESIE top level.  Think of an 
  96.          animal that you want ESIE to find.  Then type in GO.  Answer 
  97.          the questions ESIE puts to you correctly and it will figure 
  98.          out what the animal is.

  100.          To get a printed copy of this file, README.ESI, enter:
